SWEENEY CHARLES: (1919-2004) American Pilot of the B-29 bomber Bockscar which dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb on Nagasaki, 9th August 1945. A printed souvenir 4to reproduction of the famous Einstein-Szilard letter of August 1939 to American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, warning him that Germany may develop atomic bombs and suggesting that the United States should commence its own nuclear programme, signed by Sweeney in blue ink to the base of the second page, also adding his rank and the date '9 Aug. 45' in his hand. Also bearing a United States postage stamp featuring a portrait of Einstein and postmarked at Princeton, New Jersey, 14th March 1966. About EX
