MARX WILHELM: (1863-1946) German Chancellor 1923-25 & 26-28. Marx also served as President of Prussia during the Weimar Republic in 1925. A good and clean Autograph Statement, Marx, one page, oblong 12mo, pink colour, Berlin, 4th September 1924, in German. Marx states in part `In difficult times, confidently hoping for the beginning of better years…´ A good statement written by Marx during his mandate as Chancellor. Few pinholes to the left border not affecting the text or signature. VG The present statement is written shortly after the London Conference, held during the month of August 1924, were France, United Kingdom, United States and German representatives negotiated the Dawes Plan, trying to resolve the issue of World War One reparations that Germany had to pay. The Dawes plan provided for an end to the Allied occupation, and a staggered payment plan for Germany's payment of war reparations. Although Dawes was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1925, the plan proved unworkable and was replaced in 1929 by the ''Younk Plan''. Charles G. Dawes (1865-1951) American Banker, Diplomat and Vice President of the United States under President Coolidge.
