NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. L.S. `accordé Np´, to the left border of a letter signed by Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke (1765-1818) Marshal of France in 1816, one of six created under King Louis XVIII from 1815-24. Duc de Feltre and Minister of War under Napoleon. Signed at the base `Duc de Feltre´, two pages, 4to, [Paris]. 9th January 1811, in French. The document bears the printed heading ''Report to His Majesty the Emperor and King'', and is a documents issued by the Minister of War, Clarke stating in part `On 27th November 1809 a robbery took place in the Sergeant Mayor room, first Company of the 3rd Battalion of Sappers at Corfou. The total sum lost by the Corps is 517,87, amount which corresponded to the Corfou and Paxos islands troops salary for the months of May and June 1809…´ Clarke further reports that the robbery was confirmed and being an unexpected and unpredicted issue, and having been impossible to identify the author of the crime, he asks the Emperor approval to send same amount to cover the pending salaries.
