RADETZKY JOSEF: (1766-1858) Austrian field Marshal and Bohemian noble. A good Autograph Poem signed `Radetzky Fm´, one page, oblong 4to, n.p., n.d., in German. Radetzky boldly writes a four lines poem referring to the Soldier´s honour, stating in part `No man on his own wins the prize, the last man is crowned with laurel and shares the honour..´ Two creases, only one very slightly affecting the flourish. Overall minor age wear with. G Radetzky served as chief of the general staff in the Habsburg Monarchy. A disciplined but fair man beloved by his troops, known as Vater ('Father') Radetzky. He served until age 91. He was immortalized by Johann Strauss I's Radetzky March commissioned to commemorate Radetzky's victory at the Battle of Custoza.
