GEORGE III: (1738-1820) King of the United Kingdom 1760-1820. D.S., George R, as King, at the head, one page (vellum), oblong folio, Court at Saint James's, 20th February 1797. The partially printed document is a military commission appointing George Paterson to be a Major in the Fifeshire Regiment of Fencible Cavalry commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Anstruther Thomson. Countersigned at the foot by William Cavendish-Bentinck (1738-1809) 3rd Duke of Portland, British Politician who served as Home Secretary 1794-1801 and as Prime Minister 1783 & 1807-09.
