LAVAL PIERRE: (1883-1945) French Politician, Prime Minister of France 1931-32 & 1935-36. He further served in Vichy´s Regime following France´s defeat in 1940, and as Head of Government 1942-44. After the Liberation of France, Laval was arrested, accused of collaboration with the enemy in a trial full of faults, and executed by firing squad. A good T.L.S., `Pierre Laval´, one page, 4to, Paris, 20th March 1930, to Fernand David, Minister of Agriculture, in French. On the Hygiene and Labour Ministry printed stationery, Laval writes to his colleague Minister, and states `According to the 13th October 1929 deliberation, the Municipality of Neronde Council (Puy de Dome), and because of the insufficient budget means, has requested to your Ministry the approval of an extraordinary subvention which would grant the electrification of the community...´ G Pierre Laval was appointed Minister of Labour on 2nd March 1930, only two weeks before the present letter was signed.
