A fine A.L.S., Robert Peel, three pages, 4to, Whitehall, 23rd June 1842, to Prince Albert. Peel informs His Royal Highness that he will make some enquiries into the statements contained in a memorandum which Peel had received from Prince Albert the day before and further states that he has just received a letter from the Duke of Buckingham referring to a communication 'which induced him to hope to have the Honour of receiving at Stowe Her Majesty and Your Royal Highness', also remarking 'The Duke of Buckingham observes that he has heard from Mr. Grenville that Her Majesty thinks of visiting Trentham, that He and the Duchess are most anxious to have the Honour of receiving Her Majesty and Your Royal Highness at Stowe, and he solicits me to write to Your Royal Highness and……to Her Majesty to ascertain from Your Royal Highness whether there is any probability that his earnest wishes in this Respect can be complied with'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Peel, marked 'Private' and also signed ('Robert Peel') by him to the lower left corner. With a good red wax seal to the verso. A letter of good association. A couple of very light, extremely minor stains to the first page, only very slightly affecting a couple of words of text, otherwise VG Prince Albert (1819-1861) Prince Consort of the United Kingdom, husband of Queen Victoria. Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville (1797-1861) 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos. British Politician who served as Lord Privy Seal 1841-42. Born at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, the Duke did indeed receive Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for a visit to his country residence for a few days, although not until 1845. Buckingham spent £5300 on redecorating the house and entertaining the royal couple for their short visit.
