LOCKE BOBBY: (1917-1987) South African Golfer, Open Championship winner 1949, 1950, 1952 & 1957. A.L
LOCKE BOBBY: (1917-1987) South African Golfer, Open Championship winner 1949, 1950, 1952 & 1957. A.L.S., Bobby Locke, four pages, 8vo, Yeoville, Johannesburg, 6th March 1986, to Peter Bennett. Locke states that he is looking forward to coming to the United Kingdom later in the year, declaring 'I am very keen to play in the Pro-Seniors Championship again, which I believe is to be played at Little Aston', although adding that he needs a lot of practice these days, but still gains pleasure from the game. Locke continues to write of other sports, 'What do you think of the result of the Bruno - Coetzee fight at Wembley - I don't think the British public could have been very pleased with such a ''Long Fight'', maybe you should have taken Coetzee's place, and it would have been a different story entirely!!!!.....Am so pleased to see Portsmouth are doing so ''well'', up to the moment, and do hope they go up to the 1st Division at the end of the season. I have been a ''Portsmouth Supporter'' since 1946, when I heard that Field Marshall (sic) Montgomery was their ''Chairman''…..' before returning to the subject of golf, 'I believe the ''British Open Championship'' is to be played again at Turnbury (sic) in Scotland the 2nd week in July - will watch it on the T.V., and then return to S.A. - hope ''Slazengers'' will give me the ''wee invitation'' to play in their 36 hole Pro-Am event at Leatherhead Course this year - remember in 1982 when Douglas Bader and I finished 2nd on the 1st nine, with a score of 29, things like that Peter, one can never forget!!!!'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Locke. VG
