JOACHIM JOSEPH: (1831-1907) Hungarian Violinist and Composer. A close collaborator of Johannes Brahms. A very Good and lengthy A.L.S., `Joseph Joaquim´, four pages, 4to, n.p., 15th April 1860, in French. The letter bears to the heading Joachim´s blind embossed monogram with his initials. Joachim states in part `I almost fear that you do not consider me any more worthy of receiving the beautiful souvenir of our days full of music and amity at Hannover and Brussels…´, further referring to some of his correspondent´s compositions, saying `I intend to get to know son the 4 Impromptus for violín and piano dedicated to Leonard and most of all the Serious Variations. Will send them to you soon?... For my part, I would like to make you listen my Concerto in the Hungarian style which I have fully re-written this Winter and which has found success since this metamorphosis at Bremen, Hamburg and here.´ Further again, Joachim refers to great composers and his plan to visit Brussels in June, stating in part `May be the masterpieces of Beethoven, Bach, Gluck and Haendel attract you, and I will finally be able to see you again..´ With one tear to right edge, otherwise VG
