CHARCOT JEAN-MARTIN: (1825-1893) French Neurologist. Best known for his works on hypnosis, and widely regarded as the ''founder of modern neurology''. A.L.S., `Charcot´, two pages, 8vo, 3rd June 1889, on his personal printed stationery, to Doctor Broadherst, in French. Charcot appreciates his correspondent´s invitation, stating in part `Believe me that it would have been a true feast for me to spend few good hours with you and our common friends in London. But there it is! Alas!.. I have to be in Paris for my University duties, written tests, classes, we are in full swing. I must therefore resign myself..´ Charcot further and beneath his signature adds a post-scriptum saying `I write officially to the President in order to express my regret..´ Small overall minor age wear, mostly to edges, with very slightly uneven left edge otherwise G
