[GOERDELER CARL]: (1884-1945) German Politician, an opponent of the Nazi regime. Had the 20 July plot of 1944 succeeded, Goerdeler was in line to serve as Chancellor of the new government. Following the plots failure, Goerdeler was arrested, imprisoned and tortured by the Gestapo and executed by hanging in 1945. T.L.S., Goerdeler, (a black ink rubber-stamped facsimile signature), one page, 4to, Berlin, 23rd December 1931, to Fraulein Dr. Drendler, on the printed stationery of the Reich Commissioner for Price Control, in German. Goerdler invites his correspondent, following wishes expressed by various individual housewives' organisations, to a discussion on price control which he states will take place on Tuesday, 29th December 1931 at 12 noon in his office on Potsdamer Strasse. Two file holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or 'signature'. VG
