Signed by Patton in bold, dark fountain pen ink 'HQ 3 Army, Censored, G S Patton Jr'. Some light staining to the verso, otherwise VG The Siegfried Line, known in German as Westwall, was a German defensive line built in the 1930s. From September 1944 to March 1945 the Siegfried Line was subjected to a large-scale Allied offensive. When asked about the Siegfried Line, Patton reportedly said ''Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity''.
