FRANCIS II: (1768-1835) Holy Roman Emperor 1792-1806 and, as Francis I, the first Emperor of Austria 1804-35. L.S., Franz, one page, folio, Vienna, 9th April 1801, in German. The letter announces the birth of the Emperor's daughter and confirms that she has been named 'Carolina, Ferdinanda, Theresia, Josepha, Demetria'. With integral address leaf (the address panel neatly excised) and with a red wax seal affixed. With the small black ink stamp of a collector at the base. VG Archduchess Marie Caroline of Austria (1801-1832) had been born in Vienna on 7th April 1801 and became Crown Princess of Saxony upon her marriage to Frederick Augustus, Crown Prince of Saxony, in October 1819. The Crown Princess died at the young age of 31 after suffering an epileptic attack on 22nd May 1832 at Pillnitz Castle near Dresden.
