WONG CHIN FOO: (1847-1898) Chinese-American Activist, Journalist and a prolific Chinese writer in the US press of the 19th century. He was one of the first Chinese immigrants to be naturalized in 1873 and fought for the equal rights of Chinese-Americans at the time of the Chinese Exclusion Act. Signed 5 x 5 page removed from an autograph album. Signed in bold black ink both in English and in Chinese characters `Wong Chin Foo, Pekin China´. Dated in another hand to the lower left corner 1874. Matted in black beneath a 4 x 6 photograph of a painting depicting Wong Chin Foo, seated in a full length pose, to an overall size of 8 x 12 (20.5 x 30.5 cm). Overall staining, although not affecting the written text. G £400-600 Chinese-Americans consider Wong as the Chinese ''Martin Luther King'' because of Wong's tremendous efforts and huge sacrifices to defend Chinese-Americans' honour in such difficult times.
