ALFONSO XII OF SPAIN: (1857-1885) King of Spain 1874-85 & MARIA CHRISTINA OF AUSTRIA (1858-1929) Queen of Spain 1879-85 as the second spouse of King Alfonso XII. Vintage signed 6 x 8 sepia photograph, the image depicting the King standing in a full length pose, wearing his military uniform, alongside his wife the Queen Maria Christina, seated with her recently born princess in her arms. Individually signed `Maria Cristina´ and `Alfonso´ in bold black ink to the lower mount, beneath the photograph. Bearing a partially illegible coat of arms at the heading and an affixed note to the verso, written in an unidentified hand `Souvenir given by H.H.M.M the king of Spain Alfonso XII and by the Queen Maria Cristina, to the Countess of Lagrené. Madrid´ in French. Small overall, minor age wear, and very small traces of former mounting. F to G £200-300 Alfonso XII died at the very early age of 27, and was succeeded by his unborn son, who would became Alfonso XIII on his birth the following year.
