PEDRO V OF PORTUGAL: (1837-1861) King of Portugal 1853-61. Nicknamed ''The Hopeful''. An excellent and large signed and inscribed 9 x 12 photograph by Royal Portuguese photographer Wenceslau Ciffka of Lisbon, the image depicting the King of Portugal, seated in full length pose, wearing his military uniform. Signed and inscribed in bold dark ink to the mount beneath the photograph, `For my beloved Maria
. Pedro´, in German. Photographer´s blind embossed seal to the lower mount. Card mounted to an overall size of 14 x 18. Staining to the mount, not affecting the text or signature. Traces of former mounting to the verso. G £600-900 Pedro V of Portugal died at the early age of 24 when he succumbed along with his brothers Fernando and Joäo to typhoid fever. Two years earlier his wife Queen Stephanie passed away at the very early age of 22.
