KHAMENEI ALI: (1939- ) Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989. A.L.S., Khamenei, in Persian, one page, large drawing folio, n.p, 3rd September 1989, the letter being a tribute to Josip Tito. Ali Khamenei states in part `Tomorrow will be the opening of the ninth session, at the highest level of the Non-Aligned countries leaders, which takes place for the second time in Belgrade, the birth place of the non-alignment. This proves the loyalty of Yugoslavia to the principles of such movement, and to the homeland of the very important person and founder of the Non-Aligned countries Joseph Broz Tito..´ Khamenei further refers to the important labour achieved by the Non-Aligned Movement and its contribution to human life, and concludes with `Congratulations to the Yugoslavian nation which gave birth to such a leader.´ VG £200-300 Josip Broz Tito (1892-1980) Yugoslav Revolutionary and Statesman. He gained further international attention as the chief leader of the Non-Aligned Movement. Widely considered a soft dictator, but also a unifying symbol bringing peace and coexistence.
