CHATEAUBRIAND FRANÇOIS-RENÉ DE: (1768-1848) French Writer, Politician and Historian. He is considered the founder of Romanticism in French literature. A good A.L.S., Chateaubriand, two pages, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Monsieur Benoit, in French. Chateaubriand sends this boldly written letter to the Director of taxes, stating `J´ai l´honneur d´envoyer à Monsieur Benoit le prix du loyer pour le terme échu aujourd´hui. Je lui serai obligé de vouloir bien insérer dans sa quittance qu´il a accepté le congé que je lui donne pour le 1º Juillet prochain de l´appartement que j´occupe dans sa maison…´ (“I have the honour to send to Mr. Benoit the price of the rent for the term elapsed today. I will be obliged to him to kindly insert in his receipt that he has accepted the leave that I give him for next July 1st from the apartment that I occupy in his house”) With address leaf with small area of paper loss as a result of the opening of the letter.
