HESS VICTOR F.: (1883-1964) Austrian-American physicist, the discoverer of cosmic rays. Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1936. A.L.S., V. F. Hess, one page, 8vo, Mount Vernon, New York, 31st January 1962, to Mr. Corbiere. Writing in later years and with a slightly unsteady hand, Hess thanks his correspondent for their letter of 11th January and adds that, since his knowledge of French is rather limited, he cannot understand the full meaning of Corbiere's questions, concluding 'I hope that my autograph will satisfy you'. Together with a 4to sheet of paper bearing Corbiere's four questions in French. VG, 2
