SANTERRE ANTOINE: (1752-1809) French Brewer who participated in the Storm of the Bastille and became General and Commander of the National Guard during the French Revolution. Very popular for his generosity as owner of the Brasserie de la Magdeleine. A.N.S., Santerre, one page, folio, Paris, 22nd March 1793, to a L.S., by several members of the Bon-Conseil Parisian section, to the war Minister. Santerre writes a four lines annotation at the base of the document, bearing an attractive printed heading, supporting the Parisian section request for a Captain appointment. To the left border the Minister has added a three lines apostille responding that the Captain appointment is not possible but could be employed as lieutenant. Countersigned by Jean-Baptiste Bergot and Louis-Marie Lulier. With a red wax seal of the Parisian section in good condition. VG £200-300 Jean-Baptiste Bergot (17?-1794) President of the Parisian Bon-Conseil section. Guillotined. Louis-Marie Lulier (1746-1794) Member of the Bon-Conseil committee section. Politician and prosecutor, close to Hébert. He committed suicide in prison. Pierre Riel de Beurnonville (1752-1821) General under Revolution and during the Empire, Marshal of France, Minister of war in 1793.
