SAINT-JUST LOUIS ANTOINE DE: (1767-1794) Also known as the `Angel of Death´ during the Reign of Terror. French military and political major Leader during the French Revolution. The youngest of the deputies elected to the National Convention in 1792. He leaded the movement to execute King Louis XVI and later drafted the radical French Constitution in 1793. A close friend of Robespierre. Saint-Just was executed together with Robespierre and their death at the guillotine is widely considered as the end of the Reign of Terror. An excellent and attractive D.S., Saint-Juste, one page, folio, Paris, 23rd July 1794, in French. The present letter was signed only five days before Saint-Just´s execution. The partially printed document bears a very attractive printed heading of the war section of the Committee of Public Safety and refers to Chief of Battalion Bousquet who has been readmitted to his post. The document is also countersigned by three more Convention Deputies comprising Lazare Carnot (1753-1823), Robert Lindet (1746-1825) and Claude Antoine Prieur-Duvernois (1763-1832). The document has been carefully affixed to a larger sheet. Together with six printed documents, over one hundred pages, being reports by Saint-Just related to `..foreigner enemies trying to destroy the Republican government, through corruption, trying to starve Paris..´, also related to `People incarcerated´, to `Ways of executing the enemies of the Revolution´, etc.. Also including the start of Saint-Just´s speech the day he was executed. G to VG £1500-2000
