FRENCH OCCUPATION OF MALTA: In June 1798, Napoleon captured and occupied Malta as a strategic location in his Mediterranean campaign on his way to Egypt. Extremely rare L.S., multiple signatures, one page, oblong 4to, Malta, 11th August 1798, in French. The document refers to the wounds received by fusilier Jean Dufour, stating `Injured by a fire shot in his hand when disembarking on 11th June 1798 in Malta..´. The certificate is signed at the base by twelve officers. Small overall age wear. G £200-300
