FRENCH CARIBBEAN SLAVERY 1789: L.S., Chacin Junior, one page, 4to, Le Cap, 5th September 1789, in French. The letter being, a private sale of a slave, states `I acknowledge and declare having sold and given to monsieur J. Dupuy a female nigger of the Nago nation, named Gogo, for the sum of 2700 pounds, amount he has paid to me with a promissory note of the city, payable in four months time..´ The amount paid for the slave was at the time of the present letter, the equivalent to a full year salary of a vessel officer Captain. With blank integral leaf. Small overall, minor age wear. G £400-600
