Everything has been burned, the last year coffee harvest.. Although until now I have not been burned myself at home, I am, as you are, without farmers to harvest, and all will be lost..we have had for several days in town more than 6000 men welcomed as liberators..´ With addressee to the fourth page. Small area of paper loss to the opening of the letter, not affecting the text or signature. VG £300-400 François Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803) Leader of the Haitian Revolution. He first fought for the Spanish against the French; then for France against Spain and Great Britain; and finally, for Saint Domingue against Napoleonic France. He transformed the insurgency into a revolutionary movement, which by 1800 had turned Saint-Domingue, the most prosperous slave colony of the time, into the first free colonial society to have explicitly rejected race as the basis of social ranking.
