NICHOLAS II: (1868-1918) Emperor of Russia 1894-1917. L.S., Nikolas, in Cyrillic, two pages, 4to, Peterhorf, 6th October 1907, to Alexander Ivanovich Nelidov, in Cyrillic. The Tsar congratulates his correspondent sending his best praise, and states `Your outstanding services on the diplomatic field and your great personal qualities made me entrust you the task of being the First Commissioner of Russia at the second Haag Conference. Your correct understanding of Russia's interests and the sense of enlightened humanity inspiring you helped you to complete this important task successfully.´ further saying `Being chosen as Chairman of this International Convention, you contributed to implement the objectives close to my heart, such as the strengthening of peaceful relations between nations on the basis of the respect of rights.´ and concludes `I consider it fair to express my heartfelt gratitude as a gesture of appreciation of these merits.´ With blank integral leaf. The letter bears the Original Turkey Mill watermark to each page. A clean letter in very fine condition. EX £1000-1500 Aleksandr Nelidov (1838-1910) Russian Diplomat. Ambassador of Russia to Italy 1897-1903 and to France 1903-10. Nelidov was an important figure in the negotiations that led to the Peace Treaties of San Stefano and Berlin. He presided the 1907 Hague Peace Conference as the present letter states.
