GOUNOD CHARLES: (1818-1893) French Composer. An excellent autograph letter including three autograph musical quotations, A.L.S., Ch. Gounod, three pages, square 12mo, n.p., n.d., to a lady, in French. With the permission of your excellent father, whom I love as one loves him when one knows him, I take the liberty of adding a word of kind and respectful remembrance to the characteristic chant of the grotesque scene he told you about…”) And further, Gounod says `…mais pour en revenir à ce curé digne d´un tel sacristain , voila le dialogue noté selon le Rituel de la Fable Ecclésiastique´ (“…but to come back to this priest worthy of such a sacristan, here is the dialogue noted according to the Ritual of the Ecclesiastical Fable”) Gounod cleanly pens a two bars musical quotation with the singing words of the Sacristain, and beneath again another musical quotation of 3 bars with the Priest singing notes. A third quotation of one bar with two musical notes corresponding to the word `Amen´, is annotated to be sang by the public. Gounod concludes stating `…voilà; veuillez, madame, chanter cette psalmodie avec accompagnement..´ (“…so; please, lady, sing this psalmody with accompaniment..”) Very small light foxing stains, otherwise G
