Dumas sends two cheques to his correspondent, and further states in part `…Donnez-nous des nouvelles de votre frère. Il ne vous manquait plus que ça. Nous sommes tous dans le chagrin de la mort de Proteus. Il est mort comme il a vécu, avec une énergie et une simplicité extraordinaires…´ (Translation: `…Tell us about your brother. The last you needed was that. We are all in grief over the death of Proteus. He died as he lived, with extraordinary energy and simplicity…´) Accompanied by the original envelope, addressed in Dumas´ hand, postmarked and stamped.
