LOCARNO TREATIES: A small 4to sheet of plain stationery individually signed by eight individuals associated with the Locarno Treaties and the League of Nations, including Austen Chamberlain (1863-1937) British statesman, Nobel Peace prize winner in 1925 'for his crucial role in bringing about the Locarno Treaty'; Aristide Briand (1862-1932) French statesman who served as Prime Minister of France 1909-11, 1913, 1915-17, 1921-22, 1925-26 & 1929; Gustav Stresemann (1878-1929) German statesman who served as Chancellor of Germany 1923 and as Minister of Foreign Affairs 1923-29, jointly awarded (with Briand) the Nobel Peace prize in 1926 'for their crucial role in bringing about the Locarno Treaty'; H. G. Wells (1866-1946) English writer and author of the booklets The Idea of a League of Nations and The Way of the League of Nations; Henry Wilson Harris (1883-1955) English journalist who was active in the League of Nations Union in the United Kingdom; Cudbert Thornhill (1883-1952) British Colonel and member of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), husband of Dame Rachel Crowdy (1884-1964) English nurse and social reformer who was Chief of the Department of Opium Traffic and Social Issues Section of the League of Nations from 1919-31; and two others. Three of the signatures are in pencil and Briand has added the place and date, Geneva, 8th October 1926, in his hand at the head of the page. An unusual grouping of signatures.
