BAKER PASHA: ( 1827-1887) Valentine Baker. British Soldier. Brother of Sir Samuel Baker. A controversial awarded mayor of the Hussards. He was arrested on a charge of indecent assault and after a year«s imprisonment Baker left England and entered the service of the Ottoman Army in the war with Russia. Soon transferred to Mehmed Ali Pasha«s staff, leading an infantry division, and later commanding Suleiman's guard. In his late years he commanded the Egyptian police until his death.
