MERLIN DE DOUAI: (1754-1838) Philippe-Antoine Merlin de Douai. French Politician and Lawyer. President of the National Convention and member of the committee of Public Safety. He voted for the execution of King Louis XVI, & GILLET PIERRE-MATHURIN (1762-1795) French Politician. Deputy to the National Convention. Gillet, one of the younger deputies to the National Convention died at the very early age of 33. Rare A.L.S., `Douai«, and `Gillet«, one page, 4to, Lorient, 6th June 1793, to Morard de Galles, Commandant of the Squadron of the republic, in French. The autograph letter in the hand of Douai states in part `Regarding the information we forwarded to you.. what is more important for the safety of the Republic, we trust your talent and patriotism..« Page with watermark.
