LORRAINE CHARLES DE: (1684-1751) Grand Squire of France. Member of the House of Guise. He succeeded his father as the Count of Armagnac. Rare L.S., `The Pr[ince] Charles de Lorraine«, one page, 4to, Paris, 9th June 1751, in French. As Prince and General of the French King Louis XV, Charles de Lorraine authorizes `the payment of a bill of exchange of 3000 pounds.. issued in Marseille on 24th March as the initial payment for the purchase of Barb horses for the Grand stable of the King..« With blank address leaf. Few extremely small pinholes, otherwise VG £150-200 The Barb horse, or Berber horse is a northern African breed with great hardiness. The Barb horses were very appreciated at that time for their fiery temperament.
