MAXIMILIAN II OF BAVARIA: (1811-1864) King of Bavaria 1848-64. A popular and beloved King who worked in restoring stability, maintaining independence and transforming Munich into a cultural city. L.S., `Max«, one page, 4to, Naples, 3rd May 1857, to the King of the Two Sicilies, in French. Max responds to `Monsieur my Brother«, and congratulates the King of the Two Sicilies for the glad news received, stating in part `..The Queen, Your beloved spouse, has given birth to a Prince, named Janvier Marie Immaculee Louis..« Countersigned, with blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope, bearing a red wax seal to the verso. VG £80-100 Ferdinand II (1810-1859) King of the Two Sicilies 1830-59. With his second wife Maria Theresa of Austria (1816-1867) they had fourteen children, the last being Prince Januarius (1857-1867), Count of Caltagirone. Prince Januarius died at the very early age of 10 after contracting cholera. Her mother the Queen passed away a few days earlier for same reason..
