[c. 1880], in German. Annotated by Wagner in bold purple ink `Ja! Ja! - So ist´ es - R.W´, (''Yes! Yes! It is so, R.W''). To the verso the page bears two annotations, the first in pencil, seven lines in Italian, in the hand of Pietro Cossa (1830-1881) Italian Dramatist and Playwright, and the second below, four lines in French, in purple ink, in the hand of Cosima Wagner (1837-1930), second wife of Richard Wagner and illegitimate daughter of Franz Liszt. The Italian Writer, in the third person, states `Pietro Cossa is sorry for not having found the illustrious Wagner at home, and his very gentle wife, and leaves a thousand greetings´. Below, Cosima Wagner annotates `Cossa - Consul of France - Casalta de Lucca´. It is unclear why she gives to Cossa the title of Consul of France, and Casalta near Lucca was the place where Cossa was staying during his stay in Tuscany. VG £1000-1500 It was in Siena in 1880, when visiting the cathedral, that Wagner had the idea of the temple of the Graal, and suggested to Joukowsky to take inspiration from it for the setting of Parsifal.
