[BEAUCHAMP-PROCTOR ANDREW]: (1894-1921) South-African leading flying ace of First World War. Recipient of the Victoria Cross. Rare D.S. by Sholto Douglas `W.S.Douglas´, in his capacity as Major Commanding Squadron 84 of the Royal Flying Corps, one page, folio, France, 1st of June 1918, signed in pencil at the base. The partially printed document is a typed letter report relating to Combats in the Air prepared by Captain Andrew Weatherby Beauchamp-Proctor following his action in a S.E.5. Aircraft in the Fricourt area, stating, in part, `..Diving down on a balloon S.E. of Fricourt, I opened fire from 300 yds with my Vickers, and when about 50 yds distant, I fired 30 rounds from my Lewis drum of Buckingham. As I passed over balloon, I observed wreaths of blue smoke appearing on the sides of balloon. Enemy observers in two neighbouring balloons now jumped out. Owing to loss of air pressure in petrol tank, I had to return to the lines..´ An excellent signed document relating directly to Beauchamp-Proctor 22nd Aerial Victory (from a total of 54 confirmed Victories).
