MARIA II OF PORTUGAL: (1819-1853) Queen of Portugal 1826-28 & 1834-53, known as ''The Good Mother'', she was the first child of Emperor Pedro I of Brazil. A very interesting A.L.S., `Marie´, four pages, 8vo, Lisbonne, 29th January 1847, to her sister in law Victoria, in French. Maria of Portugal states in part `..hope that God will put an end to this unfortunate civil war, but naturally with honour.
