[LOUIS XIV]: (1638-1715) Also known as Louis the Great or The Sun King. King of France 1643-1715. Son of Louis XIII. His reign of more than 72 years is the longest recorded of any monarch in European history. A good L.S., `Louis´, by his secretary, one page, large oblong 22 x 14 folio, vellum, Marly, 4th July 1701, in French. The document being the appointment of Captain Treguet, to the guard costs regiments in Bretagne. Countersigned by Phélypeaux at the base. Overall age wear, mostly to the borders, with few tears and few small areas of paper loss to the edges, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise about G £120-200 Jerome Phelypeaux (1674-1747) Count of Pontchartrain. French Statesman. King´s House and Navy Secretary of State 1699-1715.
