CLAIR RENE: (1898-1981) French Film Director. A.L.S., René Clair, two pages, 4to, 35 Rue Marbeuf, Paris, 10th August 1928, to Monsieur Van Daele, on his personal printed stationery, in French. Clair sends a very interesting letter to his correspondent, an actor, explaining to him the film role he created for him and the unfortunate change of plans, and states in part ´I intended to tell you that is with sorrow that I have had to resign myself and give up with the scenario project that you know and with my wish of working with you..´ further saying `I wrote this role for you. Your rehearsals were perfect. I knew the kind of precious collaborator you would have been to me
I have had to give up. And I remain persuaded that we had, you and I, the promise of a great success. I´m really sorry
