[SHERLOCK HOLMES]; RATHBONE BASIL (1892-1967) British Actor, famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in a number of films & BRUCE NIGEL (1895-1953) British Character Actor, famous for his portrayal of Dr. Watson alongside Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes in a number of films. An extremely rare vintage signed and inscribed 9 x 6.5 photograph by both Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce individually, the image depicting the two actors in half length poses together in costume as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in a scene from one of their films. Signed by both in dark fountain pen inks to clear areas of the image, Bruce adding an inscription and the date, 1943, in his hand. Signed photographs of Rathbone and Bruce in costume from a Sherlock Holmes movie are both extremely rare and highly desirable. Neatly mounted to card, very slightly irregularly trimmed to the edges and with some light, although extensive surface creasing, all of which only detract a little from the captivating image. G £800-1200 In 1943, the year in which Bruce has dated the present photograph, he and Rathbone starred in two Sherlock Holmes films, Sherlock Holmes in Washington and Sherlock Holmes Faces Death.
