PERRAULT CHARLES: (1628-1703) French Author whose works laid the foundations for the fairy tale, a new literary genre. Well remembered are his works Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (''Little Red Riding Hood''), Cendrillon (''Cinderella''), Le Chat Botté (''Puss in Boots''). Perrault´s stories influenced the versions published by the Brothers Grimm a century later, some have been adapted to opera or ballet, such as Tchaikovsky´s La Belle au Bois Dormant (''The Sleeping Beauty''). Rare A.N.S., Perrault, one page, small 8vo, n.p., 10th October 1672, in French. Perrault states in part `Monsieur de la Planche will pay if he doesn´t mind, to the named Carnage and Valeran…the amount of four hundred Pounds for a year of maintenance of bed clothes at the Castle of…´ Lightly and carefully affixed to a slightly larger card. One very small hole not affecting the text or signature, with left and right edges slightly irregular. F to G £600-900 Perrault served as administrative aide under Jean Baptiste Colbert, finance minister to King Louis XIV. Using his influence, he was able to get his brother Claude Perrault employed as designer of a section of the Louvre and was himself involved in business activities such as the one referred to in this document.
