CHILD LYDIA MARIA: (1802-1880) American Abolitionist and women´s rights Activist. Child was also a prolific Novelist and Journalist reaching wide audiences. Best remembered for her poem `Over the River and Through the Wood´. A good A.L.S., `L. Maria Child´, two pages, 8vo, n.p. [New York], n.d. [November 1843], to an unidentified correspondent. Child states in part `I trust to your politeness to excuse my presumption in making a request dictated by a high appreciation of your character. Your affectionate adherence to Napoleon, in his fallen fortunes, has, in my eyes, more of grandeur than his own most brilliant achievements; and this feeling of respectful admiration makes me desirous to possess your autograph.´ An interesting content, discovering in Child an autograph collector.
