HERZEN ALEXANDER: (1812-1870) Russian Writer, known as the ''Father of Russian Socialism''. Herzen, while in exile in London, strongly influenced and contributed with his writings to the change of the political climate in Russia that led to the emancipation of the serfs in 1861 and further to the Russian Socialist Revolution. Extremely rare A.L.S., A. Herzen, one page, 4to, Percy Cross, Fulham, 24th December 1858, in French, with few words in German. A letter of extremely interesting content, referring to Tsar Alexander II and to the emancipation, stating in part `.. How can you ask which one is the relation between the ''Bell'' and the Emperor Alex and his ministers. Alex´ ministers are either idiots or thieves. They are enemies of the emancipation of peasants. Alex is better, but he is of such a feminine weakness
