Topaz is a nasosilicate mineral - (silicates in an island-shaped structure) containing aluminum and fluorine belonging to the sillimanite group. The pure topaz is transparent but impurities add color to it, the most common being yellow. When yellow topaz is heated, it takes on a reddish pink hue. If it is additionally irradiated, it takes on a bluish hue. Today it is common to add a thin layer of titanium oxide to topaz and thereby obtain gems that shine in different colors.
Topaz is found in acidic basic rocks such as granite and rhyolite and can be found with cassiterite and fluorite. The places where topaz is found are the Ural Mountains, the Czech Republic, Saxony, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Brazil, Mexico and the United States.
