"Ura Yisrael!" (Wake Up Israel!) Booklet, on behalf of "The Central Committee for Boycotting Goods from Germany", Calling to Boycott Goods from Nazi Germany – Tel Aviv 1934
Ura Yisrael! Edited by Yitzchak Kurland and Shmuel Friedman (Elyashiv). "Eretz" Print, Tel Aviv, Sivan (May) 1934.
In 1934, the Yeshuv declared an economic boycott on goods from Germany. For this purpose, a central committee for boycotting German goods, operating from Haifa, was chosen. The committee thus joined the worldwide Jewish stance of an economic war against Nazi Germany.
Before us is a booklet calling to boycott German products. The booklet includes various essays that warn the public not to purchase German products while the Germans are operating against the Jews in Germany. In addition, the booklet presents anti-Semite caricatures and news items that were published in German newspapers. The booklet contains many slogans in favor of the boycott and a list of merchants who had signed a declaration for boycotting German products.
The editors: Shmuel Friedman (Elyashiv) (1899-1955), a public figure in Lithuania and the Yeshuv and a diplomat who served as the Israeli ambassador to the Soviet Union. He served as the director of the Jewish National Fund and the Israeli office in Lithuania. He immigrated to Israel in 1934.
Yitzchak Kurland was a member of Brit Ha'Tzohar (the Revisionist Zionists) in Israel and the illegal immigration to Israel.
Condition: Good. Folds and stains. The illustrated jacket is missing.
Size: 29.5 cm.
Most rare booklet! Among all the libraries in Israel, there is only one copy in the National Library.
