Silver Basket Owned by Rebbe Rashab – Used for the Apples on Rosh Hashanah Eve
Silver basket, used by Rebbe Shalom Dov Ber Schneersohn, the Rashab of Lubavitch, for the apples on his Rosh Hashanah table. Open work design in Baroque style; basket set on four stylish legs, with a handle, and a removable glass bowl. Partially gilt silver (800). Maker's mark: Bruckmann & Söhne. [Heilbronn, Germany, ca. late 19th century].
Letter of authenticity enclosed (handwritten note, in English), signed in Hebrew by Rebbetzin Chanah Gurary (1899-1991), eldest daughter of Rebbe Rayatz: "I hereby gift... the silver dish to hold apples that my grandfather the Rashab bought in Germany and used it on Rosh Hashana. When it came time to dip the apple in honey, my grandfather would take an apple from this dish." Letter of authenticity dated 17 December, 1989.
Enclosed is a wooden box, which may have also been used by in "Beis Rebbe" (the wooden box was handed over alongside the silver basket, but is not mentioned in the letter of authenticity).
Maximum size: Approx. 21X14 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes.
