Two Tickets – Distribution of Water and Distribution of Food – Besieged Jerusalem, 1948
Two printed tickets filled-in by hand, one for the distribution of water and the other for the distribution of food, which were given to the residents of Jerusalem during the War of Independence. Jerusalem, 1948.
1. "The supply enterprise Jerusalem, the Histadrut Labor Federation in Palestine", ticket for the distribution of basic products: flour, oil, sugar, lentils, soap, jam, eggs and milk. A paper label mounted to its margins: "Supply enterprise 'HaTzarchan' Jerusalem".
Approx. 14x24 cm (the ticket folds in half). Good condition. Minor creases and small tears to edges. Stamps.
2. "Ticket for distribution of water, the Committee of Institutions for the Affairs of Jerusalem". Given to a family of seven, for the month of July 1948. On verso, a handwritten comment (presumably, permission to add to the water ration).
Approx. 13x21 cm. Fair-good condition. Fold lines, creases and stains. Tears along edges and fold lines. Punched holes in some of the squares of the water ration. Stamps.
