Leaf from the book Etz Chaim by the Arizal, in the handwriting of R. Meshulam Feibush HaLevi of Zbarazh. [Knihynicze, Galicia, 1765-1769].
Leaf 77, section of Sha'ar HaMelachim Chapter 8 of the full volume of Etz Chaim, written by R. Meshulam Feivush in attractive calligraphic writing. That volume begins with a colophon: "I have begun to write on Tuesday, the 23rd of Iyar 1765", and ends with another colophon: "The writing of this part has been concluded on Tuesday Erev Rosh Chodesh Tamuz 1769, here in Knihynicze. The writer Meshulam Feivush son of Aharon Moshe HaLevi of Brichany".
R. Meshulam Feivish HaLevi Heller – the Magid of Zbarazh (c. 1740-Kislev 1794), one of the first Chassidic leaders. Son of R. Aharon Moshe HaLevi Heller of Snyatyn, direct descendant of the author of the Tosfot Yom Tov. A prominent disciple of the Magid of Mezritch, of R. Menachem Mendel of Peremyshlyany (disciple of the Ba'al Shem Tov) and of R. Yechiel Michel of Zlotshev. Close companion of R. Chaim of Chernivtsi who often mentions him in his book Be'er Mayim Chaim and in his other books. Author of Yosher Divrei Emet which until today is a basic book of Chassidic thought.
