The Mythological Watchman Meir Chazanowitz, One of the Founders of "Ha'Shomer" - a Rare Postcard - Berlin, [1918]
A postcard dedicated to Meir Chazanowitz, bearing his portrait. Chazanowitz was the mythological watchman of the settlements of the north and one of the founders of the 'Bar Giyora' organization. He died in the line of duty in 1913 in Merchavya.
His figure and heritage played a central role in the 'Ha'Shomer' Organization and his friends (Ben Gurion and Ben Zvi among them) would speak admiringly of him.
The postcard before us is one of a series of postcards dedicated to watchmen who died in battles during the end of the Ottoman period.
Chazanowitz's portrait was drawn by the artist Mitchel Loeb and was taken from a memorial book for workmen and watchmen who were killed defending the Yishuv.
Condition: Good. The postcard was not used.
