NEIL SIMON - AUTOGRAPH
Marvin Neil Simon (New York, July 4, 1927 – New York, August 26, 2018) was an American playwright and screenwriter.
His works have been translated and performed all over the world, making him one of the most performed playwrights.
He began his career as a television writer and has more than 40 plays performed on Broadway since 1961, ranging from the humorous comedies of the sixties (Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, The Plaza Apartment) to the more introspective and autobiographical works of the seventies and eighties (The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Chapter Two, Biloxi Blues, Laughter on the 23rd Floor).
He also wrote numerous librettos for musical operas and film scripts and gave voice with his works to the so-called American middle class, depicting his characters as average men who are often insecure and fearful, through plots of sure comic and brilliant effect.
He married 4 times: his second wife was the actress Marsha Mason, often the protagonist of his plays and films for which he wrote the screenplay. Elaine Joyce, his last wife, is also a well-known actress.
He died on August 26, 2018 due to complications from pneumonia, at the age of 91.
Rare autograph, in excellent condition.
