JAMES STEWARD - FOTO CON AUTOGRAFO
James Maitland Stewart (Indiana, May 20, 1908 – Beverly Hills, July 2, 1997) was an American actor.
Born in Indiana, near Pittsburgh, he studied architecture at Princeton University, before being attracted to the theater. His first success came on Broadway, before making his Hollywood debut in 1935. His career took off thanks to Frank Capra's films: his role in Mister Smith Goes to Washington (1939) earned him an Oscar nomination.
He demonstrated his versatility in a wide range of film genres: from comedy to western, thriller and family films, playing classics such as The Philadelphia Story (1940), with which he managed to obtain the coveted statuette, It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Rope (1948), Harvey (1950), Rear Window (1954), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Vertigo (1958).
He worked for the most important directors of the time, including Alfred Hitchcock (with whom he had a strong artistic partnership), John Ford, Billy Wilder, Frank Capra, Anthony Mann, George Cukor. Among the icons of American cinema, he was nominated for five Oscars, winning one, plus another for his career. The American Film Institute placed him in third place among the greatest stars in the history of cinema.
As per family tradition, he also had a notable military career: in the United States Army Air Force and then in the United States Air Force, totaling twenty war missions during World War II, being awarded the third most important US military decoration, and reaching the rank of Brigadier General.
