GAETANO GIMELLI - PHOTO WITH AUTOGRAPH
"Gimelli was above all a wonderful man of the Section. I wanted to play with him at the beginning of my career, because I was sure that I would learn a lot. And so it was"
(Oscar Valdambrini remembering Gaetano Gimelli)
Gaetano Gimelli (Portofino, August 13, 1905 – Pecetto Torinese, 1990) was an Italian trumpet player.
Known by all as the Italian Louis Armstrong, given his great admiration and equally great passion for the American trumpet player, in 1935 he was in Sanremo when he heard that Armstrong would play in Nice on January 11. He left the Orchestra to rush to listen to him, and did not miss the opportunity to meet him in person.
He played with the greatest Italian and foreign orchestras. He recorded many albums with the Orchestra conducted by Maestro Pippo Barzizza, which represented for him the most significant recording period.
Original autograph of the famous musician, on vintage cardboard photo
